CSP: Purpose & Need

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a range of ideas that will improve traffic operations and safety throughout the corridor. Plans for the upgraded transportation facility will minimize impacts and increase connectivity to regional and local destinations in the study area.

Transportation Needed

Safety of the focus area includes fatalities and lane departure-related crashes. Some existing crash rates in the corridor exceed statewide averages.
Traffic congestion along the corridor contributes to poor levels of service. Traffic volume, roadway geometry, and the number of lanes impact congestion in the area.
Connectivity of vehicle movements along the corridor are incomplete or complicated. Multimodal connections across I-95 are missing or indirect.
Facility deficiencies in the corridor include deteriorating structure conditions, sub-standard lane configurations and ramp geometry, mostly fair or poor pavement conditions
