Additional PennDOT Projects Near I-95 in Delaware County


I-95 Sector C: Related Projects

In addition to the primary I-95 Sector C projects listed on the home page, PennDOT is advancing several other transportation improvement projects on state highways near I-95 in Delaware County.

These projects will help to enhance travel and safety for the thousands of people who travel on these busy corridors each day. PennDOT will work with local communities to obtain feedback and understand local needs as projects develop through the engineering design phase.

  • U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Improvements: PennDOT is transforming over six miles of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) into a wider, safer highway between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and I-95 in Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships.
  • Route 291/U.S. 13 Complete Streets Safety Project: Following Delaware County’s completion of a Route 291 Safety Improvement Study, PennDOT is developing a Complete Streets project to enhance safety for all users of the roadway in the City of Chester. Complete Streets are streets designed so people of all ages and abilities can travel safely, whether they are walking, biking, driving, or riding transit. PennDOT implemented early action safety improvements on the roadway in summer 2024.
  • Route 291 Bridge Replacement: Construction began in February 2025 on PennDOT’s project to replace the 76-year-old Route 291 (Governor Printz Boulevard) bridge over the Conrail railroad tracks in Tinicum Township. The bridge, located just south of the Philadelphia International Airport, will remain open to one travel lane in each direction during construction.
  • Chichester Avenue Corridor Safety Improvements: PennDOT is developing plans to improve safety and mobility on Chichester Avenue at its intersections with I-95 access ramps and Johnson Avenue and Pleasant Avenue in Upper Chichester Township.
  • Concord Road Improvements: PennDOT is advancing a series of projects to improve intersections along Concord Road to improve safety and connectivity for those traveling between nearby business parks and regional highways in the City of Chester and Aston, Chester, and Upper Chichester townships. The plans include a potential improvement of the Concord Road/Bethel Road/Engle Street intersections. 

PennDOT is working with Delaware County to make Route 291/U.S. 13 safer for everyone in the City of Chester. PennDOT, Delaware County, and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) are working together to develop improvements to make driving, walking, and riding a bicycle safer along Route 291/U.S. 13.
