Daytime Closure of Eastbound Girard Avenue at I-95

Jul 26, 2019
July 26, 2019 — Eastbound Girard Avenue will be closed between the Aramingo Avenue overpass and Richmond Street at the Interstate 95 Interchange in Philadelphia on Monday through Friday, July 29 to August 2, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for installation of overhead catenary wires for the Route 15 trolley line.

Eastbound Girard Avenue through traffic will  be detoured east on Frankford Avenue, then north  on Delaware Avenue to Aramingo Avenue.

Motorists also are reminded that the I-95 south off-ramp at Girard Avenue is closed until mid-2021 for reconstruction at the interchange. The Aramingo Avenue on-ramp to I-95 south at the interchange will remain open during construction. Off-ramp traffic is being directed to exit at Allegheny Avenue and follow the detour back to the Girard Avenue Interchange area.

All of the above activities are part of the $312 million project currently underway through 2023 to replace the southbound I-95 viaduct between Palmer Street in Fishtown and Ann Street in Port Richmond, reconstruct and improve the southbound on and off-ramps at Girard Avenue, and rebuild the southbound I-95 pavement between Ann Street and Allegheny Avenue.
