November 16, 2021 – This message is a follow-up on the postcard we sent last week regarding the planned closing of the 2800 block of Castor Avenue from November 16 through the end of the year for construction on the I-95 Section AF2 project.
The work to be done on this section of Castor Avenue requires excavation on both sides of the street and the delay to date involves work over shallow PGW lines. The PGW solution to working safely over the shallow gas lines was to install steel plates over the critical portions.
Supply chain delays have impacted the availability and delivery of these steel plates to the department’s contractor. Opening both sides of Castor Avenue in the residential area prior to having the necessary plates on-hand would cause more inconvenience to the residents than currently exists and would be counterproductive.
The contractor expects the plates to be available within two to three weeks, not in time for the work to start this week.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.
